A rare and highly decorative pair of antique English cast iron boot scrapers modelled as the Lion of England and the Unicorn of Scotland. Beautifully cast with impressive detail, these sculptural pieces combine practical Victorian craftsmanship with iconic British heraldic symbolism.

Originally designed as boot scrapers, each piece features a robust rear upright with a vertical scraping edge used for cleaning muddy boots before entering the house. Thanks to their substantial cast iron construction, these models have also long been used and collected as decorative fireplace andirons (firedogs), making them versatile additions to both interiors and garden settings.

The lion and unicorn are depicted in elegant recumbent poses with richly detailed manes, expressive faces, and finely modelled bodies. Their original black painted finish has developed an attractive aged patina with minor wear consistent with age, enhancing their authentic antique character.

Whether displayed beside a period fireplace, used as striking architectural garden ornaments, or added to a collection of English cast iron antiques, these unusual pieces make an exceptional statement.
